2014 Farmers Market Vendor Applications Available

The days are getting longer, our local farmers are planting seeds, and it’s time to think about CCFA’s 2014 farmers markets. We’ve recently posted the 2014 vendor application here, and we’re happy to report that fees remain unchanged from last year.

So don’t wait. Sign up now and get ready for another summer of fun-filled weekends that promote healthy eating and support our local economy.

pumpkinShedFest is the CCFA’s annual celebration of the Arkansas River Valley FoodShed. It’s a time to honor and appreciate  local food and farming, the end of a successful Farmers’ Market season and a chance to kick back, relax and hang out with other folks who have dirt under their finger nails.

Learn how you can get involved! We are still seeking volunteers and restaurateurs and food artisans to help participate in making this year’s ShedFest unforgettable.

Shedfest 2011


Get Your Tickets Now!

The excitement is building as the time draws near for this year’s ShedFest celebration.

CCFA members in good standing will have first chance at the limited number of tickets that are available– which is a good reason to join CCFA today!

This event is a wholesome and fun opportunity for the whole family, and features educational and entertaining events during the day, followed by a bountiful harvest feast in the evening.

Please make plans to join us October 15th, and pick up your tickets today.  Last year’s event sold out, so this is one thing not to procrastinate about!

New Salida Market Hours!

If you were at the Salida Market early Saturday morning, you may have realized that it was cold!  As the sun starts rising later and the temperatures start dropping, we decided that it would be smart to shift market hours to match the season a bit better.  Starting this Saturday (Sept 18) the Salida market will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; allowing you to sleep in a bit more and enjoy a bit more warmth at market!  (Note: Buena Vista market hours will remain the same: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays).

Local Foods Recipe Contest

So, I must say, I’m a little disappointed at the lack of participation in our local foods recipe contest.  You have the opportunity to win 5 market bucks spendable at any vendor at either the Salida or Buena Vista farmers market.  That said, I will continue to seek recipes.  This week’s local food ingredient is bread.  Now I know you’re probably thinking that bread is not really an ingredient, but rather something cooked; however, bread (both wheat and gluten free) is delicious (yes, I have discovered delicious gluten free bread) and used in many recipes.  And, this week’s vendor feature is on Styria Bakery (see below).

What are your favorite ways to cook with bread?  The recipe can be as simple, or as intricate, as your favorite sandwich – hot or cold.  Share your recipe below for the chance to win 5 market bucks!  This week’s recipe contest is being posted a bit late, so you will have until next Wednesday, September 22 at 5pm to post your recipe.

Vendor Feature: Styria Bakery

Styria Bakery is a family owned, mom and pop, business owned by Klaus and Shannon Campbell.  They specialize in handmade European Gourmet and Artisan breads made with natural starter and no preservatives.  They are a Colorado bakery that is only available at farmers markets, home shows, and Christmas shows.

Best of all, all of the bread is handmade right before market!  Ken, a neighbor of Klaus and Shannon, spends 18 hours baking on Friday and then drives from Denver to share Styria’s delicious bread with market goers.

Styria bread varieties include: roasted garlic, jewish rye, asiago cheese, walnut cranberry, jalapeno jack, and lemon mint white chocolate.  They also sell authentic apple strudel.  I asked Ken what his favorite flavors were and he said that he enjoys the white tuscan because it is versatile and can be made into sandwiches, the lemon white chocolate, and the focaccia because eating a loaf of bread is like eating a pizza.  What’s your favorite way to eat Styria Bakery bread?
