About CCFA

The Central Colorado FoodShed Alliance (CCFA) is a local, Arkansas River Valley organization that connects farmers, food artisans and craft makers with the local community. Our mission is to help facilitate a thriving local food economy and a healthy, happy, sustainable community. We put on the farmers markets in Buena Vista and Salida, Colorado and we throw a huge celebration of local food, called ShedFest, at the end of each season. We also publish a Local Food Guide which is a useful tool for people wanting to source locally!

Mission Statement:

Central Colorado Foodshed Alliance (CCFA) is a cooperative organization created to stimulate and support the local food economy in our food shed. CCFA works to unite local producers with community members, provide education about the value of local food and foster a vibrant local economy while promoting productive open space and sustainability.

History

The CCFA was formed in 2007 by a diverse group of citizens in Chaffee County, Colorado. After many discussions and a Holistic Management workshop, the group’s mission became clearly defined. With the help of the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union and a USDA rural economic development grant, the CCFA was able to begin several projects in the first year of operation. Now those projects are beginning to sustain themselves. The CCFA continues to develop its professional skills while working to provide more services to support and foster the local food economy.
